Late Privy Council president and statesman Prem Tinsulanonda before his death expressed his intention to donate all his money and assets to help the poor, his close aide said on Monday.

Gen Pissanu Phutthawong said the late Privy Council president had told him of his distribution plans for the assets and savings from his salary that he had accumulated since becoming a privy council member. He wanted to donate them to projects to benefit the poor, the aide said.

Gen Pissanu refused to disclose the amount of the money and assets, saying only that the total was hundreds of millions of baht.

Shortly before Gen Prem's death, Gen Pissanu met Wissanu Krea-ngam to inform the deputy prime minister of his superior's intention and seek his help fulfilling Gen Prem's last wish to spend the money on sustainable projects, he said.

The deputy prime minister confirmed his meeting with Gen Pissanu, and said it took place less than a week ago.

Gen Prem died of heart failure on Sunday at Phramongkutklao Hospital. His body was transferred on Monday to Wat Benchamaborpit for a royally sponsored bathing rite and chanting.
