Singer Nathathai “Faii Amfine" Saengphet and net idol Saira Mirror reported to police on Wednesday to hear charges over their endorsement of cosmetic and weight-loss products linked to Magic Skin Co.

Ms Nathathai and Ms Saira Mirror met Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta, deputy national police chief, at the Royal Thai Police Office in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district on Wednesday.

Pol Gen Wirachai said Ms Nathathai had been charged with making false advertisements for cosmetic products in violation of Section 41 of the 2015 Cosmetics Act. The offence carried a jail term of up to one year and/or a fine of up to 100,000 baht.

Ms Saira has been charged with violating Section 40 of the 1979 Food Act for her falsely representing the properties of a weight-loss product. The offence carried a jail term of up to three years and/or a fine of 30,000 baht.

Police would take the net idol to the Bangkok South Municipal Court this afternoon for trial, said the deputy national police chief.

After hearing the charges, Ms Nathathai said she would be taken to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to pay a fine. She said she decided to review the products of a firm linked to Magic Skin Co after seeing many other celebrities endorse it.

The singer said she would like to apologise to those who used the product and thanked authorities for not sending her to jail.

On Tuesday, the Bangkok South Municipal Court sentenced singer-actor Kanokchat“Typhoon KPN’’ Munyad-on to six months in jail, suspended for one year, and a fine of 15,000 baht for falsely presenting the properties of food supplements in breach of Sections 40  and 70 of the Food Act.

The court initially gave him a jail term of one year and a fine of 30,000 baht, but reduced the sentence because he confessed to the charges.

Prosecutors said the actor had falsely presented the properties of the “Slim Milk’’ food supplement online in August, 2017, claiming that the product was effective for weight loss and was 100% safe with no side effects.

Mr Kanokchat and actress Usamanee "Kwan'' Waitayanon on Tuesday turned themselves in to police to hear similar charges over their endorsement of products linked to Magic Skin.
