Gaur found shot dead in national park

A 500kg gaur was found shot dead in a national park in Ratchaburi yesterday.

Krisana Sapdetch, Ratchaburi police chief said the six-year-old female gaur was found dead in Chaleomprakiat Thaiprachan National Park.

Veterinarians have concluded the gaur was shot dead at least seven days ago. A rifle bullet was found in the wild animal's liver. The gaur still had its horns.

Authorities believe the gaur was shot by a hunter in a different area and it fled to Ratchaburi where it eventually succumbed to its injuries, said Pol Maj Gen Krisana.

Forensic results from the bullet will be known today.
