PRACHIN BURI — Two Polish tourists who became lost in the forest of Khao Yai National Park on Monday were found by one of the nine search teams on Tuesday afternoon, 1st Conservation Area director Thanarote Phothisaro said.

Mr Thanarote said the leader of the 7th search team radioed his office  about 1pm with the news the two tourists, a man and a woman, were found near Haew Prathun, about three kilometres from Haew Suwat.

He said the two left the office of Khao Yai National Park on Jan 8 to spend the night at a camping ground near Lam Takhong.  On Jan 9 they entered the forest.

The park officials heard nothing from them until late on Monday night when they called for help on a mobile phone.

Using an ID left by the woman at the park's office where they rented a tent for camping, Mr Thanarote said he contacted the Polish embassy in Bangkok. The embassy confirmed the identity of the woman, who is a forestry scientist.  The identity of the man was not yet known, he added.

Mr Thanarote said the search team found them weary and exhausted. He instructed the team to provide them with water, medicine if needed and mineral supplements.

It was not known whether the two would be able to walk back to the park office with the search team, he said.
