Foreigner killed jumping in front of a bus

PHUKET – A male foreigner died after jumping in front of a moving bus on the road to Patong beach early on Wednesday morning.

Police were informed shortly before 5am that a foreign man had died on Phra Baramee road, the main road from Phuket international airport to Patong area.

At the scene they found a parked white bus coach and a foreign man, aged 40-50 years, dead on the road about 20 metres away with severe injuries to his right side. The man was wearing a white shirt and thigh-length camouflage pants. He had no documents on him. The body was sent to Patong hospital for post-mortem.

Coach driver Somkid Wongpan, 34, told police he was taking around 20 Chinese tourists from the airport to a hotel in the Patong area. The foreigner had jumped from the roadside immediately in front of his vehicle. He had no chance of stopping in time and the bus hit the man.

Pol Maj Pathapi Srichai, a case officer at Kratu police station, said police would question the driver again and try to identify the dead man.
