Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wonsuwon said on Wednesday that he, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam and the Election Commission planned to meet representatives of political parties next week to discuss political activities.

He said the meeting would happen while Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was abroad. The prime minister is visiting Europe and is scheduled to return on Tuesday.

Gen Prawit did not reveal the venue or exact date, but said he had learned that representatives of most political parties would attend the meeting.

The session would discuss a plan to lift the ban on political activities. It would not address any security issues, Gen Prawit said. He was quite capable of ensuring national order.

"I would like to hear what they want. We will answer the questions that we can answer.

"For questions that we cannot answer right away, we will find answers and report them to the prime minister so that he can deliver them later," Gen Prawit said.
