Suporn warns of poll ID complaint

Nakhon Ratchasima: Former red-shirt leader Suporn Atthawong yesterday threatened to file a complaint with police against a group of people for allegedly violating the regime's orders and violating the law on political parties.

Mr Suporn, formerly a key figure in the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said his next move was to seek police action after he had alerted local election officials to alleged misconduct.

Better known by his nickname "Rambo Isan", Mr Suporn accused a Nakhon Ratchasima politician of conspiring with others to hire village health volunteers to collect ID cards from Soeng Sang and Khon Buri district locals as they prepared to recruit them as members of a political party.

He claimed the practice was a breach of the organic law governing political parties and the ban on political activities imposed by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

"I will file a complaint with police in Soeng Sang and Khon Buri districts in a few days to take legal action against those who hired people to collect ID cards. I'll also hand more evidence to the election officials too," he said.

Mr Suporn said he had no intention to discredit the political party in question and hoped key party figures would take action when they learnt about this.

The ex-red-shirt leader was among those defecting to join a pro-regime party, Phalang Pracharat, believed to have been set up to back Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha if he bids to reclaim the premiership.
