The executive committee of the Democrat Party has approved the nomination of candidates to contest in 346 of the 350 constituencies nationwide in the forthcoming general election, party spokesman Thana Chiravinij said on Sunday.

Mr Thana said the party has yet to finalise the remaining four candidates to run in Constituency 5 of Phetchabun, Constituency 2 of Loei and Constituencies 2 and 3 of Nong Bua Lamphu. He said there were still problems there with the qualifications of would-be candidates and confusion over the redrawing of constituency boundaries.

Vithoon Nambutr, a deputy party leader supervising the Northeast, has been assigned to solve the problems.

The party's executive committee will finalise its candidates in all 350 constituencies by Jan 14, said the spokesman.

He said the candidates for all constituencies in the South have been finalised. One of them is Chumpol Julasai, a former party member who joined the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) that led street protests against the government of Yingluck Shinawatra.

"The executive committee approved Mr Chumpol's candidacy because he said he wants to run under the Democrat Party. with which he has had strong ties. The party believes that the people of Chumphon will have confidence in its choice," said Mr Thana, adding that Mr Chumpol will also help campaign for two other Democrat candidates in the province.

Mr Thana said the party will unveil all of its 350 constituency candidates after a royal decree on the election date has been issued.

The party is also expected to finalise its 150 candidates for the party list by Jan 14, he added.
