Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha remains the favourite as prime minister while Pheu Thai is the party of choice for most voters, according to an opinion poll. However, the number of voters who are undecided on both counts is still far higher.

The Bangkok Poll weekly survey, results of which were released on Saturday, was conducted from Feb 18-20 with 1,506 people nationwide.

Of all respondents, 95.6% said they would vote while 2.1% will not and 2.3% are undecided.

Asked about the most appealing party slogans, 37.4% are attracted to Pheu Thai’s “trimming expenses, increasing incomes and expanding opportunities”, followed by the Democrat Party’s “curing poverty, fostering people, building nation” (34.1%) and Bhumjaithai’s “reducing state power, raising people’s power the answers to people’s well-being” (23.1%).

Palang Pracharath’s slogan “7:7:7 Pracharath welfare, society, economy” came fourth at 21.5%, followed by Chartthaipattana’s “improving quality of life, solving problems and continuing with reform” (20.7%).

In another survey released on Saturday, a majority of respondents say peace is the development they would most like to see after the March 24 election.

Super Poll, conducted on 1,326 people from Feb 17-22, found 82.1% choose peace as the desired outcome of the vote. Another 9.8% wanted to see more Thais employed and better off after the election.

The poll also showed almost equal numbers of supporters and opponents of the current government, at 17.8% and 17.7%, respectively. However, 64.7% count themselves in the silent majority who do not take sides.
