The Chart Pattana Party has postponed a major election rally scheduled for March 13 in its stronghold of Nakhon Ratchasima as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is scheduled to visit the northeastern province the same day.

The event planned for the Save One market from 4-8pm on Wednesday has been rescheduled to March 18, as the political situation in the constituency has changed, Chart Pattana election director Wannarat Charnnukul said on Saturday.

Gen Prayut is scheduled to visit Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen provinces on March 13 and preside over the One Transportation for All event.

Over the next 10 days he is scheduled to visit four major provinces — Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Rai and Nakhon Si Thammasat — to “follow up on government work”, as his spokesmen put it. In each one, the visits will take place just days after the Palang Pracharath Party holds major political rallies.

Gen Prayut is Palang Pracharath’s sole candidate for prime minister. He has been taking great pains to avoid the appearance of campaigning because of concerns that he might be accused of abusing his office in violation of election rules.

Palang Pracharath has insisted that the timing and locations of Gen Prayut’s visits are purely coincidental.
