Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's staff posted a picture of him receiving a intravenous saline infusion while working at Government House on Thursday.

A spokesman explained Gen Prayut was tired and the saline drip was to ward off illness. 

The candid picture of Gen Prayut sitting at his desk in the Thai Khu Fah Building in the Government House compound was posted on the Facebook account "Gen.Prayut Chan-o-cha ทีมงาน" on Thursday morning.

It shows Gen Prayut wearing a white shirt, long sleeves rolled up below his elbows while at work. On his left, there is a medical intravenous pole with a saline bottle hung on it. The tube from the bottle appears to be feeding into his left hand. 

The prime minister had no outside appointments on Thursday. He was due to host the last of his regular nationally televised Friday talk shows from Government House.

Col Athisit Chaiyanuwat, assistant government spokesman, said Gen Prayut was tired and to ward off illness he had a doctor from Phramongkutklao Hospital give him one bottle of saline solution.

The prime minister had received this treatment often during his frequent and long overseas trips when went short of sleep, the assistant spokesman said.
