The Election Commission (EC) has asked an activist to give a statement on Friday over his petition to seek a probe into the qualifications of Seri Ruam Thai Party leader Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves.
In a petition lodged with the EC early this week, Surawat Sangkharuek accused Pol Gen Sereepisuth of lacking the qualifications to apply to be an MP candidate and asked the EC to forward the case to the Supreme Court for a ruling.
Mr Surawat said on Thursday he is due to give his statement to the EC on Friday over the allegation against Pol Gen Sereepisuth.
In his petition, Mr Surawat claimed Pol Gen Sereepisuth, the former police chief, is not eligible to contest the March 24 poll under Section 98 (8) of the charter because he was temporarily dismissed from the police force in 2008 during the Samak Sundaravej administration.
Pol Gen Sereepisuth shrugged off the petition and described the individual who sought the probe as a "hired gun".
He also warned the person in question that he could face a jail term for making such an accusation.
The Seri Ruam Thai Party leader also said he has yet to verify Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon's wealth, who was named in a news website as a "crazy rich Asian".
According to Pol Gen Sereepisuth, he needs to double check the information to confirm the accuracy and credibility of the sources before he decides to ask the National Anti-Corruption Commission to launch an inquiry into Gen Prawit's alleged wealth.
