The Election Commission (EC) is set to announce 95% of the official election results on May 7-8, according to media reports.

Ittiporn Boonprakong, the EC chairman, presided over a special meeting of the EC on Sunday to examine a number of petitions related to the March 24 election which have not yet been considered.

The EC will meet again on Monday from 10am to go through all of the remaining petitions. It has decided to officially announce the names of at least 95% -- or 333 MPs -- elected from 350 constituencies on May 7. It was unclear when the full tally would be announced, although previously the EC said it would issue complete results on May 9.

The party-list MPs will be announced on May 8.

EC staff have already prepared a venue on the 2nd floor of the EC office for the announcements.

The petition for the EC to disqualify Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, the Future Forward Party leader, for allegedly holding shares in the media business was not tabled for consideration on Sunday.

It was believed the EC would initially give approval for Mr Thanathorn to be an MP on the party list, pending an investigation. But if Mr Thanathorn was later found to have violated the media shareholding ban, the EC would submit a petition for the Constitutional Court to make a final ruling.

In a separate development, the EC has ordered a new election in Constituency 8 of Chiang Mai province on May 26 after Pheu Thai Party's Surapol Kiatchaiyakorn, who came first in the March 24 election, was found guilty of election fraud. He was temporarily suspended from running in an election for one year.

The new election will be held without taking new applications, meaning that Pheu Thai will lose the seat.
