Isara richest man in NLA

Isara Vongkusolkit has emerged as Thailand's richest lawmaker, with assets worth 5.22 billion baht, while Somporn Thepsithar, the oldest member, has the lowest net worth of 160,000 baht.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) disclosed on Friday the assets of 195 NLA members who took office on Aug 8.

Trailing Mr Isara, a sugar tycoon who is also chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, were Bilaibhan Sampatisiri, chairwoman of Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel, with 1.31 billion baht; deputy police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda (962 million), banker Chatchaval Apibalsri, (838 million) and former navy commander Adm Khamthorn Pumhiran (801 million).

Two of the members, Rajata Rajatanavin and Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, who resigned to become public health minister and deputy transport minister respectively, did not submit the lists but the NACC insisted they would have to do so in both capacities.

Among military and police officers, Lt Gen Kampanat Ruddit, First Region army commander, has 99.86 million baht while assistant army chief Lt Gen Teerachai Nakwanich has 70.23 million baht. 

Lt Gen Preecha Chan-o-cha, former Third Region army commander and Prime Minister Prayut's brother, has 79.82 million baht.

Pol Gen Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, former police chief and a brother of Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, has 136.56 million baht.

Gen Prawit's other brother, Adm Sithawat Wongsuwan, reported 12.51 million baht in net assets.

ACM Paisal Sitabutr, assistant air force chief and a brother of army chief Udomdej, has 19.41 million baht.

The net worth is calculated from the assets of the members inlcuding those of their registered spouses, minus their liabilities.
