NARATHIWAT: A killer on the loose shot and killed a woman in her home, while her three-year-old daughter was hiding under a blanket.

On Sunday, Pol Capt Suthee Chuthip, deputy investigator of the Tanyong police station, was informed that a person had been shot dead in an unregistered house in the middle of a rubber plantation in Kaluwo sub-district of Muang district.

A crowd of people were surrounding the house, approximately 300 metres from the main road. The door was left open, and the body of a woman was found lying face-down in a pool of blood on her bed.

The dead woman was identified as Nura Jaesa-laemae, 28, who had been living with her boyfriend and three-year-old daughter.

Two months ago, her boyfriend was apprehended by the police on drug-related charges, leaving Nura and her daughter on their own.

Villagers in the area when the shooting occurred said they saw a man park a motorcycle in front of the house and call for the door to be opened. Shots were fired shortly afterwards and the man disappeared.

Authorities believe that the incident was likely drug-related, but did not rule out other motives. Since her boyfriend's arrest, neighbours said, men were frequently seen visiting the house late at night.

Nura was reportedly shot four times with a .38 pistol.
