Ranger accused of molesting girl

Authorities are investigating a Pattani-based volunteer ranger who was accused of molesting a pre-teenage sixth-grade girl, according to the forward command of the Internal Security Operations Command's Region 4.

The volunteer ranger has been detained at the 43rd Ranger Regiment in Pattani pending a handover to the police, forward command spokesman Pramote Prom-in said.

Forward command chief Pornsak Poolsawad has been informed of the matter and ordered the 43rd Ranger Regiment to launch a probe.

If the probe confirms the allegation, the volunteer ranger will be subject to the highest disciplinary punishment which is dismissal as well as criminal action, Col Pramote said.

The spokesman said the girl was suspected of having been molested on Aug 18. She was taken by her teacher at a local school she attended in Nong Chik district to police to record the incident in the police day book.

However, no charge has been pressed against the volunteer ranger identified by a Facebook page as Thawatchai Srithawee, of Phatthalung.

A security source said the page contained information related to the alleged violation of the girl, which was shared widely in the social media. The page mentioned the volunteer had promised to pay the girl's family 200,000 baht as compensation.
