Thai League 1 flops Super Power Samut Prakan have been taken over by Capital Group from Maha Sarakham and will be renamed Jumpasri United for their stint in the second tier next season.

Super Power, who have only five points from 31 matches this season, became the first top-flight side to be relegated to Thai League 2, which is also called the M-150 Championship.

Unfortunately, the only bright spots in their 2017 campaign came very late in the season when they claimed a surprise 3-2 win over Navy and managed a 2-2 draw at Thai Honda in their past two outings.

They are scheduled to play three more matches in Thai League 1 this year.

Super Power, formerly known as Osotspa M-150, yesterday confirmed the takeover by Capital Group and said the club will be relocated to Maha Sarakham Main Stadium next year.

Thanabodi Promsuk, who will be the vice president of Jumpasri United, expressed optimism that the club would improve under the new management.

The team was established in 1971 and changed its name several times over the past 46 years.

It started off as Osotspa, before changing its name to Osotspa M-150, Osotspa M-150 Saraburi, Osotspa M-150 Samut Prakan and finally Super Power Samut Prakan.

The Thai League 1 battles will resume next week when leaders Buriram United will be attempting to put the title out of defending champions SCG Muang Thong United's reach.

Buriram need only one draw in their remaining three games to claim the title.
