Since Muang Thong United are very likely to lose their Thai League 1 title, coach Totchtawan Sripan has switched his focus to the cup competitions.
Buriram United need only one point in their last three games to wrestle the league crown from bitter rivals Muang Thong.
Totchtawan said yesterday that it is not possible for his team to retain the Thai League 1 trophy and that his team will try to win the FA Cup and League Cup.
Muang Thong are in the semi-finals of both competitions and they will begin the double mission at Chiang Rai United in the FA Cup tonight.
In tonight's other FA Cup semi-final, surprise package JL Chiangmai from Thai League 4 host Bangkok United.
"We are unlikely to retain the Thai League 1 trophy so we have shifted our focus to the two cup competitions. We will try to win both trophies," Totchtawan said.
"The game at Chiang Rai United is an important one for us. It will not be easy to play at Chiang Rai because they are a strong team and have many good players."
Muang Thong will be spearheaded by a three-pronged attack of Teerasil Dangda, Heberty Fernandes and Leandro Assumpcao.
In the previous round, Chiang Rai stunned Buriram 1-0 and Muang Thong beat PTT Rayong by the same scoreline.
Chiang Rai United vice-president Thanapol Virathepsuporn said: "Our players are in high spirits after we beat Buriram in the quarter-finals. We will give our best against Muang Thong to reach the final and win the title."
JL Chiangmai president Chuchai Lertpongadsorn said his men are looking forward to the final.
"Reaching the semi-finals is already a big bonus for us,'' he said. "We are the underdogs but we believe anything can happen in football."
Bangkok United coach Mano Polking warned his men against complacency.
"JL Chiangmai are a good team and we can't underestimate them,'' he said. "But I believe in the potential of our players."
