Thailand's No.1 Luksika Kumkhum has been drawn to face Hungarian qualifier Fanny Stollar in the first round of the WTA-EA Hua Hin Championship at True Arena Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

It will be the first meeting between the two players.

The world No.124 Luksika, who could face either former world No.12 Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium or former No.2 Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the second round, admitted it was a tough draw for her but vowed to do her best in front of the home fans.

"It is definitely a tough draw but I will do my best," said Luksika, who also has second seed Evgeniya Rodina of Russia in her section of the draw.

"I play Fanny Stollar in the first round and although she's a qualifier, I won't underestimate her. I will just try to do my best for the fans and will not look too far ahead, just focus on each round."

Luksika is one of the five Thai players in the main draw of the tournament. Others include Varatchaya Wongteanchai, Chompootip Jandakate, Peangtarn Plipluech and Yanin Wisitwaraporn.

In the first round action today, Yanin plays Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland in the second match on centre court while world No.224 Peangtarn, who received a wild card into the tournament, meets world No.170 Barbara Haas of Austria in the third match.

Top seed Wang Qiang of China, also a wild card, takes on Ksenia Lykina of Russia in the first match on centre court.

Chompootip, also a wild card, has the toughest opening test among the Thai players with a first-round match-up against sixth seed Ana Bogdan of Romania. Varatchaya will meet China's Gao Xinyu in her opener.

Meanwhile Nudnida Luangnam and Nicha Lertpitaksinchai both failed to make it to the main draw after losing their final qualifying matches yesterday.

Nudnida lost to Emina Bektas of the US 6-0, 6-1 while Nicha fell to Giuliana Olmos of Mexico 6-4, 6-4 yesterday.

Today's first-round matches start at 3pm.

Apart from the WTA event, the seaside resort town will also host the ATP-EA Hua Hin Open Challenger 2017 on Nov 18-26.

GOERGES LIFTS TROPHY

Germany's Julia Goerges stormed to victory at the WTA Elite Trophy yesterday, hammering second seed CoCo Vandeweghe in the final to snatch her second title of the year.

The 29-year-old made an unexpected comeback in the first set to take down the fiery Vandeweghe 7-5, 6-1 in Zhuhai, China, with fellow German and tennis legend Steffi Graf in the audience.

With the title, Goerges is set to end the season with a career-high ranking of world No.14.

She joins other Elite Trophy winners Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams.
