Thailand U23 coach Zoran Jankovic said the scheduled warm-up game against Australia will be an important step in the team's preparations for the AFC U23 Championship in China next month.
Thailand will kick off their Group B campaign against North Korea on Jan 10, followed by the match against Japan on Jan 13 and Palestine three days later.
The Thai team, currently training at the Bangkok-Thonburi University, will play two warm-up matches against Thai League 1 sides Chonburi and Pattaya United before leaving for China on Jan 3.
The team will train at Jinshan Sports Centre in Shanghai for a few days and play Australia U23 team at Qiantan Park Sports Centre, also in Shanghai, on Jan 6.
Jankovic said: "The game against Australia U23 team will be the last test for the team before the tournament and it will benefit our players a lot because they are strong and have great fitness.
"It's important that we play a warm-up against a team similar to our opponents in Group B.
"The players would also need to adapt to the weather in China, which is far more colder than Thailand."
The event features four four-team groups and the top two teams of each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
Group A includes China, Qatar, Uzbekistan and Oman. Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia are in Group C, while Group D consists of South Korea, Australia, Syria and Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Thai League Cup winners SCG Muang Thong United left for Hanoi yesterday to play the first leg of the Mekong Club Championship against Sanna Khanh Hoa tomorrow.
The second leg will be played at Supachalasai Stadium on Jan 6.
