LIVERPOOL: Everton turned in a brilliant defensive performance to hold Chelsea to a 0-0 draw in their Premier League match at Goodison Park on Saturday.

With the point, Everton extend their unbeaten streak to six matches and pull level with eighth-place Leicester City, who host second-place Manchester United in Saturday's late match. Chelsea move to within two points of United.

Chelsea held almost a 70:30 edge in possession but struggled to find a way past Everton skipper Sam Allardyce's well organised five-man defence. The hosts, meanwhile, managed only five shots, none of them on target, against 24 shots, eight on target, by the visitors.

Chelsea entered Saturday's contest having won their last three league matches against the Liverpool side by an aggregate score of 10-0.

Everton were without Wayne Rooney, who was scratched because of a last-minute illness. He has been a pleasant surprise for the club this season, scoring 10 goals in 16 league appearances, the fewest matches it’s taken him to reach 10 goals since 2011-12.
