Unseeded Kantaphon continues fairytale run at Thailand Masters

Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol moved into the semi-finals of the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters at Bangkok's Nimibutr Stadium yesterday.

The top seed defeated seventh seed Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia 21-13, 22-20 in 43 minutes in the women's singles quarter-finals yesterday.

She next faces Malaysian fourth seed Soniia Cheah, who beat Natsumi Shimoda of Japan 21-16, 21-16, for a place in the final of the US$150,000 event.

Fellow Thai and No.3 seed Pornpawee Chochuwong, who reached the last four after beating compatriot Pattarasuda Chaiwan 21-16, 21-16, plays Kisona Selvaduray in the other match today.

Unseeded Kantaphon Wangcharoen continued his surprise run in the event, reaching the men's singles semi-finals. He beat Indonesia's Ihsan Maulana Mustofa 21-14, 21-13 and will meet Malaysia's Leong Jun Hao.

However, compatriot Suppanyu Avihingsanon failed to progress, losing 15-21, 18-21 to Malaysia's Daren Liew, who next faces Indonesian second seed Tommy Sugiarto, a 21-17, 21-8 winner over Japan's Hashiru Shimono yesterday.

In the women's doubles, Savitree Amitrapai and Pacharapun Chochuwong went through to the last four after fourth seeded compatriots Chayanit Chaladchalam and Phataimas Muenwong retired trailing 4-5 in the opening game.

Top seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai had to dig deep to defeat fifth seeds Della Destiara Haris and Rizki Amelia Pradipta of Indonesia 12-21, 21-19, 21-16.

In the men's doubles, Tinn Isriyanet and Kittisak Namdash stunned No.2 seeds Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia 24-22, 21-19 to advance.

Nipitphon Phuangphuapet and Jongkolphan Kititharakul and seventh seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Puttita Supajirakul also advanced to the mixed doubles semis.
