Thailand gets high marks for hospitality from SportAccord president Baumann

SportAccord president Patrick Baumann has heaped praises on Thailand for its hosting of the international convention.

The six-day SportAccord 2018 in Bangkok ended on Friday with participants impressed with the country's organisational skills ans its hospitality.

"This week, we showed the power of sport -- teamwork at every level, between GAISF members and the IOC & ANOC, but in particular with our Thai hosts," said Baumann, also the president of Global Association of International Sports Federations.

"It has been a busy week for everyone, but I believe we are growing and making a positive difference through our united efforts."

He hoped that "this wonderful country continues to be a great host" of sporting events. "My thanks to the Royal Thai Government and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for his hospitality. The Thai government held meetings with various international federations," Baumann said.

According to IOC member Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, about 2,800 delegates participated in the SportAccord 2018, which the country was hosting for the first time. "As host, Thailand has been praised for its warmth. I believe that with this success, the country will be trusted to host many more international events in the future," she said.

During his meeting with IOC president Thomas Bach on Tuesday, Prime Minister Prayut said the country wanted to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 and would be keen to see Muay Thai being included as one of the sports in the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.

Thailand is likely to compete with India which expressed its interest to host the 2026 Youth Olympic Games besides the 2023 Asian Games and the 2032 Olympics.
