Thailand ended the first week of action at the inaugural FIVB Nations League campaign on a high note after beating Argentina 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-16) in Russia on Thursday.

After losing their first two matches against the Netherlands and Russia, the Thai team, led by veteran captain Pluemjit Thinkaow, bounced back strongly to defeat winless Argentina and claim their first win of the campaign.

Ajcharaporn Kongyot had another impressive game and was again the top scorer for Thailand with 13 points. Pimpichaya Kokram chipped in 11 points, while Onuma Sittirak and Hattaya Bamrungsuk had seven points each.

Julieta Constanza Lazcano top-scored for Argentina with nine points. Elina Rodriguez and Antonela Fortuna had seven points each.

It was Thailand's fourth straight win against the South Americans recorded in the first FIVB meeting between the two teams 2012.

Thailand had lost to the Netherlands 3-0 in the opening game on Tuesday and gone down to hosts Russia 3-1 on Wednesday night in Pool 1 action at the 5,000-seat Team Sports Palce in Yekaterinburg.

The Netherlands were due to play hosts Russia in a meeting between two unbeaten teams later on Thursday night.

In Ningbo, China, Belgium edged winless Dominican Republic 3-2 to end the first week with two wins and one loss in Pool 2.

South Korea stunned hosts China 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-13) as both teams ended with two wins and one loss each.

Thailand will play China, Poland and Serbia in Pool 7 in Macau next week.

The 2018 FIVB Women's Nations League, a new annual international tournament contested by 16 teams, replaces the former World Grand Prix. The competition is being held from May to July.

The teams are divided into four pools of four teams and will play five straight weeks in the league rounds. The top five teams will then join hosts China in the final round in Nanjing.
