Busanan Ongbamrungphan won the deciding fifth match to power Thailand past defending champions China on Friday and into the final of the Uber Cup badminton tournament at Impact Arena.

Busanan dispatched Li Xuerui 21-11, 21-9 in a singles match that took just 33 minutes to give the hosts a 3-2 win. It was the second clinching victory recorded in as many days by Busanan.

The Thai women will face top-seeded Japan on Saturday starting at 1pm.

World No.4 Ratchanok Intanon got Friday's semi-final off to a promising start with a three-set win over Chen Yufei. With crowds shouting "Thailand! Thailand!" Ratchanok hit smash after smash to come back after losing the first game to win two in a row.

"I was a bit excited because every point was important, especially in the final rounds," she said afterwards. "I thank the Thai sports fans who have come out to support us."

The Chinese bounced back to take the first doubles match before Nitchanon Jindapol clawed her way back from a set down to beat Gao Fangjie in a singles thriller that had the crowd on their feet.

The comeback for the home favourite was sparked by a remarkable scoop from the floor when she was 13-11 down in the second set.

Another doubles victory by China set the stage for Busanan's heroics in the fifth match of the day.

Earlier, Japan charged into the final by beating South Korea 3-1, with doubles pair Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi securing their shot at the title.

World number two Akane Yamaguchi got Japan off to a flying start, easing to a 21-10, 21-13 win against Sung Ji Hyun, while Nozomi Okuhara dispatched Lee Jang Mi 21-9, 21-15.

South Korea had levelled at 1-1 with the first doubles pairing but Matsutomo and Takahashi battled to a 21-11, 17-21, 21-14 win in the deciding match.

Japanese world No.9 Okuhara has yet to lose in this year's biennial Uber cup.

"My senior teammates encouraged me to bring out my best, so I was only thinking about doing my badminton," she told reporters afterwards.

"I think it will be a tough battle whoever I face tomorrow."

The Uber Cup is being held alongside the men's Thomas Cup, with China facing Indonesia and Denmark against Japan on Fruiday evening.

The Thai Uber Cup team thank fans at Impact Arena on Friday after they beat reigning champions China 3-2 in the semifinals.
