The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has asked Indonesia to conduct a redraw for the men's football competition of next month's Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang.

The redraw has been ordered as names of two countries -- the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Palestine -- had been left out when the exercise first took place earlier this month.

It has been confirmed that the UAE and Palestine had both submitted their entries correctly according to the rules.

The AFC has informed all its member associations, including the Football Association of Thailand, that the redraw for the Asian Games will take place as the number of participating teams has risen to 26 countries.

The new official draw of the men's football competition is schedule to take place on Monday in Jakarta.

In the earlier draw, Thailand were placed in the tough Group B which also comprised Uzbekistan, Qatar and Bangladesh.

Thailand have never won a medal in football in the Asian Games although they have finished fourth four times in 1990, 1998, 2002 and 2014.

The men's football tournament in the Asian Games is limited to players under 23 years of age.

Meanwhile, Tottenham winger Son Heung-Min could miss the start of the Premier League season after being selected by South Korea to play in the Asian Games.

Son has been included as one of three overage players in the 20-man squad for the U23 tournament that runs from Aug 14-Sept 1. The Premier League kicks off on Aug 11.

However, the Asian Games is not an official Fifa tournament and Tottenham can choose not to release the player.

But if Son helps his country win the gold medal, he would be exempt from a 21-month long military service period that he is likely to have to start in 2020.

Tottenham announced yesterday that Son had signed a new long-term contract until 2023.

The 26-year-old has netted 47 goals in 140 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino's side since his move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. bangkok post/ap
