A shoot-out victory over Nakhon Ratchasima on Wednesday night has earned Chiang Rai United the chance to make amends for their League Cup final heartbreak last year.

Chiang Rai coach Alexandre Gama, whose Beetles beat the Swat Cats 3-1 in the shoot-out following a 1-1 stalemate after extra time at Supachalasai Stadium, said he is "expecting an exciting battle" with Bangkok Glass in the final on Oct 20.

Bangkok Glass stunned former champions Buriram United 2-1 in the other semi-final on Wednesday night.

"It was a tough game for us," Gama said after the semi-final.

"We have played many matches and many of our players are injured, but everyone worked very hard and we deserved to win against Nakhon Ratchasima."

Gama added: "Bangkok Glass may not be in a good position in Thai League 1, but they have shown that they are a good team and difficult opponents.

"We were in fact expecting to meet Buriram United in the final but were surprised by the result.

"We are ready to play with any team. We don't have any problems and we will try our best to win the title."

Chaiyawat Buran put Chiang Rai ahead in the 11th minute before Nakhon Ratchasima equalised in the 72nd minute when Leandro Assumpcao converted a penalty. During the 30-minute extra time, none of the two teams could score any goals.

In the shoot-out, the Swat Cats' only scorer was Antonio Pina while Shahrel Fikri, Jakkit Niyomsuk and Chanatphon Sikkhamondol all missed. Chiang Rai were on target through Phitiwat Sukjitthummakul, Victor Cardozo and Akkrawin Sawadee, but Bill Rosimar sent his shot wide.

Meanwhile, Buriram United coach Bozidar Bandovic, reacting to his team's shock exit in the semi-finals, admitted the Thunder Castle weren't good enough to tame the Glass Rabbits.

"During the first fifteen minutes of the match, we could not control the game well but in the second half, we had the control and did well," said the Buriram coach, whose team have now missed their target of sweeping all three domestic titles this year.

He added: "We had several chances to score goals but we lacked enthusiasm. The way we played, we should have lost the game.

"Nobody wants to lose such an important game, but this is football. Now, we must focus on our matches in other competitions."

Buiram are still in with a chance to claim the FA Cup title and also lead the Thai League 1 table by nine points.
