National coach Milovan Rajevac yesterday named his initial 27-man squad for Thailand's defence of the Suzuki Cup.

The announcement was made after the War Elephants scored two 1-0 wins against Hong Kong and Trinidad and Tobago in friendly matches.

The team will be trimmed to 23 players before Thailand begin their defence of the title at the Suzuki Cup (Southeast Asian championship) next month.

The players will have to report to the training camp on Oct 23 but those from Chiang Rai United, Buriram United and Bangkok Glass are allowed to join the team on Oct 29 after their club duties.

Chiang Rai will meet Bangkok Glass in the League Cup final on Oct 20 and also face Buriram in the FA Cup showdown on Oct 27.

Thailand will be without four overseas-based players -- Teerasil Dangda, Theerathon Bunmathan, Chanathip Songkrasin and Kawin Thamsatchanan.

The Suzuki Cup is not sanctioned by Fifa so clubs cannot be forced to release their players.

Meanwhile, Rattanakorn Maikami, who received his first call-up to the national side, said he was happy to get an opportunity to play for his country.

"It's a dream for every player to play for his country," said the 20-year-old Buriram midfielder. "I will try to prove myself during training to be in the 23-man squad."
