BURNLEY, England: Improving Burnley remained undefeated in 2019 with a 2-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League match at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Despite holding a 70:30 edge in possession and outshooting their hosts 11-2, Spurs could not get on the scoresheet in the first half. The match was 57 minutes old before Chris Wood put Burnley in front with a header from very close range, from a Dwight McNeil cross following a corner.

Spurs’ talisman and England captain Harry Kane, in his first match back since a Jan 13 injury, brought the visitors level eight minutes later with a right-footed shot from the left side of the six-yard box. But Ashley Barnes found the net seven minutes from time to put Burnley ahead to stay.

The win lifts Burnley into 13th place, five points clear of the relegation zone. Spurs remain five points behind second-place Liverpool, who visit Manchester United on Sunday.

Burnley are now within one match of equalling their longest undefeated streak in the top flight, which was nine matches between May and September 1966.
