A 1-1 home draw with Bangkok United on Saturday night has left Thai League 1 leaders Port within striking distance of defending champions Buriram United.

The tie also ended a five-game winning streak for Port, who improved their tally to 24 points, five ahead of the Thunder Castle who have two games in hand.

Defender Elias Dolah thrilled a large crowd at Port's PAT Stadium shortly after 10 minutes, but the home team's celebrations lasted only a few moments as Bangkok United pulled level through a Nelson Bonilla strike.

Both teams were reduced to 10 men in the final 10 minutes.

Port's Sergio Suarez was sent off in the 80th minute after he threw the ball at an opponent.

Suarez vented his anger after the referee did not award Port a penalty after a teammate looked to have been fouled in the area.

The referee only gave Port a free-kick.

In the dying moments, Bangkok United's Sanrawat Dejmitr received his second yellow card for dissent.

Earlier yesterday, PT Prachuap enacted a last-gasp escape at Samut Prakan City as they walked away with a point following a 1-1 draw last night.

Prachuap, who had flattered to deceive at the start of the season, found themselves a goal down 10 minutes into second half when Ibson Demelo put the hosts ahead.

While Samut Prakan City were able to ward off the visitors' onslaughts, they couldn't do much to stop Matheus Alves from picking up the equaliser for Prachuap in the last minute.

Samut Prakan City joined Buriram United and Chiang Rai United in second place on 19 points.

Buriram have been given the weekend off as they are due to play an AFC Champions League Group G match in midweek.

Chiang Rai, on the hand, are away at Chonburi this evening.

Meanwhile, out-of-sorts former champions SCG Muang Thong United will be trying to stop the rot on Sunday.

Bottom-place Muang Thong, with seven points, face a tricky match at fellow relegation strugglers Suphanburi, coached by their former boss Totchtawan Sripan.

A win for Muang Thong plus results of other games could see the Kirins climb out of the relegation zone.

But it remains to be seen if Muang Thong players will heed their coach Yoon Jong-Hwan's call for unity.

Muang Thong suffered an embarrassing loss at second-tier Police Tero in the League Cup in midweek.

"I am exhausted physically and mentally," said the South Korean coach after the match.
