Participants at the Olympic Day Walk and Run could win tickets to the 2020 Tokyo Games, organisers said.

The event, organised by the National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT) and BEC-Tero Entertainment, will be held at Bangkok's Supachalasai Stadium on June 16.

NOCT vice-president Pichai Chunhawachira said the annual event features two categories -- a 5km race and a 10km contest.

The competition begins at 5am, and all participants will be eligible to win special prizes worth more than 500,000 baht.

The two grand prizes are two sets of two plane tickets plus accommodation for two persons to attend the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he said.

"The participants will get the chance to win some great prizes in a lucky draw,'' Pichai told a press conference recently.

The Tokyo Olympics will be held from July 24-Aug 9, 2020.

The Olympic Day Walk and Run is an annual event initiated by the International Olympic Committee (OIC).

The race has been held in 205 countries, all of whom are members of the IOC, including Thailand.

Registration can be made at Thai Ticket Major outlets (call 02-262-3456, website www.thaiticketmajor.com), Thailand Post offices, and Tesco Lotus One Stop Service centres.

It will also be shown live on Channel 3 SD (28).

Meanwhile, Olympic and Paralympic athletes participated in a walk with some 4,600 people near the venues of the Tokyo Games yesterday in a bid to promote next year's competition.

The participants walked a route near the Tokyo Bay area, where many of the 2020 venues are located.
