Sirisak Yodyardthai's six-month reign as the caretaker coach of the Thai national squad ended on Friday in the wake of the War Elephants' poor run in the recent King's Cup.

Sirisak and his staff coaches submitted their resignations to the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), assuming responsibility for the national team's bottom-place finish in the prestigious tournament in Buri Ram earlier this month.

Thailand had a decent run under Sirisak but the losses to Vietnam and India at the King's Cup -- eventually won by newcomers Curacao -- proved to be his undoing.

His team of staff coaches included Choketawee Promrut, Sasa Todic and Nebojsa Stamenkovic.

Sirisak took over as the interim coach after the FAT sacked Milovan Rajevac during the AFC Asian Cup in January. He helped the War Elephants qualify for the last-16 stage of the continental event before losing 2-1 to China.

"Actually, I decided to step down while we were still in Buri Ram to assume responsibility for the team's lacklustre results in the King's Cup," said Sirisak.

The coach called on the fans to continue supporting the national team, but added that he had no plans to return to the squad in any capacity in the near future.

"This is to give other people who have more ability the chance to help the team, while I will be solely focusing on getting the pro-licence for coaching in Japan," said Sirisak.

Meanwhile, FAT deputy secretary-general Patit Supapong confirmed that the association has started looking for full-time coaches for both the senior and U23 teams.

"We have not yet spoken to anyone because coach Toey [Sirisak] and coach Choke [Choketawee] only resigned today," said Patit.

"However, everyone had been expecting this so we have received some coaches' profiles from their agents. We will have our new technical chief Carles Romagosa take a look at the credentials of the coaches interested in the jobs first."
