#June

June has always been a special month for me, because my birthday is in June. Honestly, though, I stopped caring about my birthday once I turned 30.

June is a month many people wish didn't exist, because it's one of the only three months of the year with no public holidays and celebrations. We have New Year's and Children's Day in January, followed by Chinese New Year and V-Day in February. Makabucha often falls in March and while that might not be a major cause for celebration, we're often thinking about those long holidays in April. You get the idea.

Now we're in June. No holidays. No celebrations. Nothing. Unless you, like me, were born in June, chances are this will be a boring month for you. All that's waiting for you this month is endless rain, which also means power cuts, floods and being stuck on the road longer than usual.

June is also the mid-point of the year, which serves as a good reminder that you're half way through 2016 and you haven't really touched any of your New Year resolutions.

To save you from this mini catastrophe, I have scoured the Internet looking for reasons why you should embrace June with open arms.

• Jun 4 is Hug Your Cat Day. If you don't own a cat, you can hug something else. Your boss? Your ex?

• If you're depressed about being single, remember that Jun 4 is also Old Maid's Day, a day that exists to remind you that while your friends are busy posting pre-wedding photos, you've yet to find Prince Charming.

• Jun 7 is, wait for it, National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. My favourite is Häagen Dazs, but sometimes Wall's will just have to do.

• Jun 8 is Best Friends Day, so show your appreciation by not tagging your friends in those photos in which you look like a goddess and they look like a toad. Although it's quite fun, admittedly.

There are many other special days in June -- Donald Duck Day, International Sushi Day and International Yoga Day, which come right before National Chocolate Eclair Day.

Sometimes I wonder who came up with these special celebrations. I mean, Donald Duck Day? What could possibly make someone go, "You have no idea what kind of influence Donald Duck has had on mankind. We need a special day to commemorate him"?

But I am all for celebrations. Anything to make an ordinary day more special is always great. While doing my research, I found out my birthday is also National Catfish Day. Impressive, huh.
