Prayutian Language

Prayutian Language

You can always count on dear Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for unique phraseology that stimulates our brains in search of what the heck he truly means. Most recently, what he said spurred speculation that he may step down as prime minister for failing to complete an oath-taking, which his critics said could nullify the entire Prayut 2.0 Cabinet.

In case you've missed some of his most memorable, mesmerising and entertaining quotes, here are some of my favourites.

(1)

What he said: "ผมขอเป็นผู้รับผิดชอบแต่เพียงผู้เดียว"

"I would like to be solely held accountable for this" (in response to him failing to lead his Cabinet to complete the oath-taking)

What he meant:

He's not going anywhere. He didn't mean anything by what he said.

(2)

What he said: โรดแมป (Roadmap).

What he meant:

A rough timeline which he plans to have something done by a certain time but it can be postponed several times.

(3)

What he said: เราจะทำตามสัญญาของเวลาอีกไม่นาน

We'll do as promised. Just [give us] a little more time. (from Return Happiness To Thailand song which he penned).

What he meant:

We (as in NCPO) will do things as promised when we're good and ready. We work on Thai time.

(4)

What he said: "..แผ่นดินนี้เรียกร้องผม แผ่นดินที่เหยียบ ทุกวันนี้เรียกร้องให้ผมทำให้เขา"

"...the land urged me. The very land on which I stand every day urged me to do (my job) for her." (part of what he said to the cheering crowd in Buri Ram when he visited the northeastern province last May)

What he meant:

That's exactly what he meant. Remember how he talked to animals like he's Dr Dolittle so communicating with personified land isn't much of a stretch.

(5)

(part of what he said to reporters on Jan 3, 2018)

"I need to change today because I'm not a soldier. Do you understand? I'm a politician who used to be a soldier. I still have some soldier traits in me, but the most important thing is the people and they aren't my people but they're people of Thailand. And they aren't people of any particular party. They are all Thais".

What he meant:

What did he mean?!
