Wake up, Thailand

Re: "Thailand Pass needs fixing", (Editorial, Nov 19).

I couldn't agree more. Your proposal of "How about allowing airlines that already examine visas to do the job? They could also check travel documents before allowing passengers on board. This could also ensure low-risk travel amid a pandemic without causing big headaches." Your idea is already working smoothly in Australian airports. Why can't Thailand replicate the same instead of all those rubbishing comments and lies coming from respected ministers as well as administrators?

If those systems are implemented, it would be good for Thailand's ailing economy and on the job front.

I believe there is sabotage afoot behind this Thailand plan. Otherwise why can't those learned people not see the destruction they have inflicted on the economy.

I hope common sense prevails and a broad agenda will be implemented soon to get rid of such evil ideas.

Re: "Nuclear power the answer", (PostBag, Nov 14), "Let's get real", (PostBag, Nov 15) and "Nuke energy needed", (PostBag, Nov 16).

These letters look suspiciously similar, having basically the same underlying messages that nuclear power is the answer to the global climate crisis.

If I did not know any better, I would think they were written by one and the same person!

Balanced argument

Re: "Is Post anti-vax" (BP, Nov 13).

I grew up in America -- a land in which citizens tend to consume products which they think weigh up as the best of the best after engaging in a free and open debate about quality control issues pertaining to the product in question.

Yet our first generation of Covid vaccines seems to be a very different story.

There seems to be many cases of people falling ill or dying after getting jabbed.

I am fully-vaccinated with Pfizer. Now that the Post has published both the good and the bad aspects about our Covid vaccines, I fully encourage readers who are enthusiastic about first-generation Covid vaccines to get vaccinated.

The Post is by no means "anti-vax". They are simply publishing the good, the bad and the ugly about the vaccines.

Gays last in line

Re: "More equal marriage bluster", (PostBag, Nov 21).

The letter is understandably indignant about the lack of progress in gay legal equality in Thailand. However, no country in Asia has yet adopted the liberal policies the writer seeks.

Only Taiwan has in place anything resembling gay marriage or even civil unions. But only for Taiwanese -- no foreigners allowed. The Orient rarely hurries.

Clap with one hand

Re: "Thai politics needs a middle pathway", (BP, Nov 20).

I read his comment, and was struck by his words that "the saga reminds many of the time of Thaksin".

My question is, why do we not condemn those who sold their souls to this man? Those so-called independent agencies and institutions whose jobs are to provide the necessary checks and balances?

There is a Thai saying that you cannot make sound by clapping with one hand.

So yes, Thaksin may be "infamous", but it is those who disregarded their duties and responsibilities who are worse!
