Black Mountain named 'Best Course in Asia'

Black Mountain named 'Best Course in Asia'

Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin has reinforced its elite status among golf courses in Asia after winning three major awards at the Asia Pacific Golf Summit in Singapore last weekend.

Harald Elisson, Black Mountain's general manager, receives one of three major awards at the Asia Pacific Golf Summit in Singapore.

The championship course, which opened in 2007 and will host a European Tour event in February, was named "Best Course in Thailand" for the fourth consecutive year, as well as "Best Course in Asia" and "Best Championship Course in Asia".

It is the most keynote awards won by any course at the prestigious annual event, attended by golf industry professionals from Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America.

To cap off its success, Black Mountain's general manager, Harald Elisson, was named "Best General Manager in Asia".

The recognition at the Asia Pacific Golf Summit follows Black Mountain's multiple awards at the 2012 event, when it was named "Best Championship Course in Asia Pacific" and "Best Course in Thailand", the latter for the second time.

In 2012, Black Mountain also became the first course in Thailand to be included in Golf Digest's list of the top 100 courses outside the United States.

Being voted best course and best championship course in the region is a further step up for the stunning mountainside course, which has hosted several Asian Tour events and will play host to the Thailand Classic, a joint-sanctioned European Tour and Asian Tour tournament, for the next three years, beginning in 2015.

Harald Elisson said the awards represented further acknowledgement of Black Mountain's widespread appeal to members and guests who come to the course from around the world.

"We have worked hard to constantly improve the course, facilities and service standards," he said. "We strive to present the course in excellent condition year-round and have also made a big effort to make Black Mountain a true golf resort for families. In addition to the championship course and a great par-three course, Black Mountain has a water park and wakeboard park, tennis and volleyball courts, a spa and an excellent restaurant. It is truly a family-friendly destination with something for everybody."

The latest Asia Pacific Golf Summit awards are also further recognition for Hua Hin as one of Asia's leading golf tourism destinations. In 2012, Hua Hin was named golf destination of the year for Asia and Australasia by the International Association of Golf Tourism Operators.

At the awards, another Hua Hin course — Banyan Golf Club — was named third-best in Thailand, behind Black Mountain and Thai Country Club.

All three courses are members of the Bangkok-based Golf In A Kingdom marketing collective.
