SCG Muang Thong United will meet Chiang Rai United in the Toyota League Cup final following their semi-final wins last night.

Chiang Rai United defeated Ratchaburi Mitr Phol 1-0, while Muang Thong beat Police Tero 2-1.

While Chiang Rai United are on course to make a sweep of two cup titles, the League Cup is virtually Muang Thong's last chance to win silverware this season.

The League Cup final will be a rematch of the FA Cup semi-final won by Chiang Rai in a penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw on Wednesday.

At Rajamangala National Stadium last night, a brace from Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda finished off Police Tero.

Teerasil opened the scoring with a header off a Theerathon Bunmathan cross after 43 minutes.

Police Tero regrouped in the second half and Jaka Ihbeisheh put the match back on level terms with a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.

However, the Kirins regained lead three minutes later when Teerasil steered a Theerathon pass into the net from close range.

Muang Thong defender Celio was sent off for a second bookable offence with four minutes remaining but the Kirins fended off Police Tero's late charge.

As Supachalasai Stadium, Chiang Rai were the better side with Felipe Azevedo scoring the only goal of the match after 14 minutes.

Meanwhile, Buriram United have produced shirts to commemorate their record fifth Thai League 1 title although they have not yet been crowned champions this season.

The shirts are on sale at their shops.

Buriram need just one point from their remaining three games to wrest the title from holders Muang Thong.

The two bitter rivals are currently joint record holders with four T1 titles each.

Buriram have asked the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) to hand them the trophy at I-Mobile Stadium on Nov 8 after their match against Police Tero.

FAT president Somyot Poompunmuang said he did not have any problem with the request but wondered if the Thunder Castle would win the title on that day.

Scolari bids farewell

Luiz Felipe Scolari thanked the Guangzhou Evergrande players and fans yesterday after what is expected to be his final game in charge at the freshly crowned Chinese Super League (CSL) champions.

The 68-year-old was not on the bench for the dead-rubber 2-1 home defeat to Tianjin Quanjian because of suspension, but the decorated Brazilian coach emerged onto the pitch afterwards to see his side lift the CSL trophy.

Guangzhou last month wrapped up a seventh CSL title on the bounce, with two games to spare, and Scolari told the Tianhe Stadium via microphone yesterday: "First of all, thanks to all of you for your support and company along the way."

Guangzhou have remained tight-lipped amid reports that Scolari had chosen not to renew his contract in southern China. Italian World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro could be the man to replace Scolari. bangkok post/afp
