Port coach Jadet Meelarp breathed a sigh of relief as his men shocked SCG Muang Thong United 2-0 to advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

Thailand national team striker Teerasil Dangda deflected a free kick by Port playmaker Pakorn Prempak into his own goal in the 74th minute to put the visitors on course.

A few minutes later Charyl Chappuis committed a defensive blunder, allowing new Port striker Rolando Blackburn to steal his feeble tap back to the Muang Thong goalkeeper and double the margin for Jadet's team.

Jadet has been feeling the heat as Port have been winless in their past five Thai League 1 games.

League leaders Buriram United cruised into the last eight with a 5-0 victory over second-tier side Rayong FC last night.

Dutch forward Nacer Barazite found the net in the 37th, 43rd and 55th minutes to record a hat-trick, while Sasalak Haiprakhon (58th) and Supachok Sarachart (61st) also got on the scoresheet for the Thunder Castle.

Defending champions Chiang Rai United also advanced with a 4-1 away win over another League 2 club MOF Customs United.

Sirichai Lumputtha gave the home team a surprise lead on 14 minutes but three goals in a span of nine minutes -- two from Bill Rosimar (20th pen, 25th) and Chaiyawat Buran (29th) -- gave the holders a comfortable lead.

Bill completed his hat-trick with a 68th-minute penalty after William Henrique was fouled in the area.

In other results, Trat beat Bankhai United 4-1; Nakhon Si United lost to Ratchaburi FC 2-0; Nakhon Ratchasima beat Surat Thani City FC 4-0; Thai-Honda FC beat Samut Prakan City 3-2.

Sinthaweechai's return

Former Thailand No.1 goalkeeper Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool has re-signed with his former club Chonburi.

The 37-year-old reportedly accepted a pay cut to rejoin the Sharks from Suphanburi on a two-and-a-half-year contract. He will wear a No.99 jersey.

Sinthaweechai turned down offers from several big clubs in Thai League 1 to secure the move back to his former team. He spent eight years with Chonburi before joining Suphanburi in 2016.
