Port will be relishing the opportunity to leapfrog Chiang Rai United into second place in Thai League 1 when they take on an under-strength True Bangkok United side today.

Chiang Rai have a relatively tougher assignment this weekend which will take them to seventh-placed Chonburi tomorrow.

Leaders Buriram United also will be fancying another victory today when they welcome their coach Bozidar Bandovic back from a two-game suspension and host struggling Sukhothai.

Bangkok United will be without injured stars Peerapat Notechaiya, Tristan Do and Nelson Bonilla while Anon Amornlertsak will be serving a one-match ban.

"We don't want to use it as an excuse but we will be missing some of our key players in this match," said Bangkok United assistant coach Watsapol Kaewpaluek.

"Port have gained a lot of confidence since Choketawee [Promrut] took over as their coach, but we have to win this home game. We will play attacking football because we want three points from this match."

Port, unbeaten in six games under Choketawee, beat Suphanburi 3-1 last week with their new striker Rolando Blackburn continuing his scoring spree.

Playmaker Sumanya Purisay is a doubtful starter but this did not stop Port assistant coach Sarawut Treephan from predicting a victory over Bangkok United.

Buriram United chairman Newin Chidchob yesterday reminded his players that they can't afford to slip up anymore and urged them to deliver another home victory today.

"We are now closer to winning our seventh league title. In fact we can win all three domestic titles this year, so we must go for them," said Newin.

Sukhothai coach Phairoj Bovornwattanadilok said: "We have nothing to lose, so we might as well try to steal a point from this game."

Meanwhile, Chonburi are hoping to get the better of Chiang Rai at their home ground tomorrow.

But Beetles coach Ailton dos Santos said they want to keep their challenge for the league title on track as "this is now the only trophy we can win this year."

The league goes into a two-week break after this weekend to allow the national team take part in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
