Thailand aim to make a clean sweep of five gold medals in tennis at the SEA Games in the Philippines later this year.

The Thai tennis team will be led by veteran Tamarine Tanasugarn and Luksika Kumkhum, the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT) said yesterday.

Peangtarn Plipuech is the other female player who has already been picked for the 2019 SEA Games from Nov 30-Dec 11.

The men's team features twins Sanchai and Sonchat Ratiwatana and Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul.

The LTAT is organising a qualifying tournament to select two female and two male players to join them.

"Our aim is to win all five gold medals,'' team manager Nitinat Bulan said.

LTAT president Kitsombat Euammongkol added: "The presence of Tamarine will help make us stronger and we should win at least four golds."

There are five events at the SEA Games -- the men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

Tamarine said: "I'd like to thank the LTAT for giving me a chance to play in another SEA Games. I will help the team in the doubles event. I have been training hard to become as fit as possible. It is a challenge for me after I last played in the SEA Games four years ago."

The Los Angeles-born star said she also wanted to make another Olympic appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Luksika, the defending women's singles champion, said she could now train after suffering a shoulder injury.

"I am confident that I will be fit in time for the SEA Games. My aim is to retain the gold medal in the singles event. But this could be tough because other players have made progress," said the 26-year-old star.

The Thai tennis team won four gold medals at the previous SEA Games in 2017, missing out on the men's singles title.
