Thaworn Wiratchant birdied the first play-off hole to beat compatriot and friend Prayad Marksaeng to win the Komatsu Open in Japan on Saturday.

It was Thaworn's second victory on the Japan Senior Tour after his first in September last year.

Both were level on 14 under after 54 holes at the par-72 Komatsu Country Club.

"I played really well today, shooting seven under," said Thaworn, 52.

"Beating Prayad to win my second title makes me happy because we are friends.

"At last year's tournament, I shot 11 under in the first round but could only finish third. This year is better -- I had a slow start and then made a move in the final round."

Prayad could have won the title after making five birdies on the front nine for a three-shot lead.

But he suffered a quadruple bogey at the 17th hole and forced a play-off with a last-hole birdie.

Thaworn received ¥12 million (about 3.3 million baht) and moved to third on the money list.

Leader Prayad has earned more than ¥38 million this season and looks set to be crowned money champion for the fourth time in a row.
