CHANGZHOU, China: Thailand’s run at the China Open badminton tournament ended on Saturday with the defeat of mixed doubles contenders Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai in their semi-final match.
The fourth-seeded Thai pair fell in straight sets (21-16, 21-10) to second-seeded Wang Li Yiu and Huang Dong Ping of China in a match that took just 40 minutes to play at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Changzhou
Dechapol and Sapsiree, silver medallists at last month's world championships in Basel, advanced further than any of their compatriots this week. Women's singles contenders Ratchanok Intanon, Pornpawee Chochuwong and Busanan Ongbamrungphan were all sent packing in the quarter-finals on Friday.
