The Thai women's football team are ready for their title showdown with defending champions Vietnam and hope to pick up the gold medal today.

The match will kick off at Manila's Rizal Memorial Stadium at 7pm.

Both teams earlier played to a 1-1 draw in a group stage clash.

Thailand coach Naruephon Kaneson expects a tough battle with the defending champions tonight.

"It will be another tough game for our team," said Naruephon.

"We met in the group stage and the game was close. However, we will try to do our best to post a good result.

"The Vietnamese are strong and their standard of play is quite high. We need to find a way to handle them.

"We have watched the Vietnamese team play many times -- they have a very good teamwork. Their four attacking players are also very good. We cannot underestimate them at all.

"The Vietnamese have their own style, but we would also prefer to stick to our own style of play.

"The outcome will largely depend on who makes less mistakes and who could make the most of the mistakes committed by their opponents.

"It is the final game and we want to the gold back to Thailand as a gift to the Thai football fans."

The Chaba Kaew defeated Myanmar 1-0 in the semi-finals on Thursday.

At the previous Games in Malaysia in 2017, the Vietnamese were crowned champions ahead of Thailand thanks to their better goal difference following a round-robin contest.
