Theerathon move made permanent

Thailand defender Theerathon Bunmathan has completed a move to Japanese champions Yokohama F Marinos from Thai League 1 side Muang Thong United, both clubs announced yesterday.

The 29-year-old star played for Yokohama on loan from the Kirins last season and helped Marinos claim the Japanese league title.

He scored a goal against closest rivals FC Tokyo in a 3-0 win on the final day of the season earlier this month.

With the success, he became the first Thai player to win the J.League title.

"SCG Muang Thong United confirm Theerathon has been transferred to Yokohama F Marinos," the Thai League 1 club said.

Theerathon, who played for Vissel Kobe in 2018, spent two seasons on loan in Japan from Muang Thong.

The Nonthaburi native was recently named the player of the year by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT).

Benjamin in confident mood

Benjamin Davis says he is ready to help Thailand at the AFC U23 Championship next month.

The 19-year-old Fulham midfielder is among the 33 players in Akira Nishino's preliminary squad for the championship to be held in Thailand.

Thailand are in the same group as Australia, Iraq and Bahrain. The top three finishers in the Jan 8-26 tournament get tickets to the 2020 Olympics.

"I want to be part of the Thai team," said Benjamin, who represented Singapore at the U19 level. "I am ready to help the team on and off the pitch."

He said his fitness level and experience from playing in England could be useful against teams like Australia and Iraq.

The Thai players will report to the training camp today.
