Thai twins to bolster Port's solid defence

With the arrival of twins Thitathorn and Thitawee Aksornsri, high-flying Thai League 1 club Port will be spoiled for choice for defenders.

The 22-year-old brothers were unveiled as Port players by club chairwoman Nualphan Lamsam on Sunday after joining the FA Cup champions from fellow Thai League 1 side Police Tero.

Port last month signed Thailand defender Adisorn Promrak from Muang Thong United.

The Lions also have other fine defenders such as David Rochela, Kewin Deeromram and Martin Steuble.

'Chopin' Thitathorn and 'Papin' Thitawee shot to fame on the international stage at the Asian U23 Championship in Thailand in January. Reports claimed Port paid Police Tero around 20-30 million baht for the duo.

Port and BG Pathum were third on 10 points after four games when the season was suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They are two points behind leading duo Bangkok United and Ratchaburi.

Under Nualphan, Port won the FA Cup last year for their first title in 10 years. She is now targeting the league trophy as the season will resume in September.

J-League schedule

Thailand defender Theerathon Bunmathan and his Yokohama F Marinos will continue the defence of their J-League title at Urawa Red Diamonds on July 4 when the campaign resumes following a four-month Covid-19 break, according to a new schedule released yesterday.

Meanwhile, Yokohama FC will host Consadole Sapporo who feature two Thailand internationals, playmaker Chanathip Songkrasin and goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan.

Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda could start for Shimizu S-Pulse when they play Nagoya Grampus.

The coronavirus pandemic prompted the Japanese top flight to suspend play in late February after just one round of matches. MCOT HD (30) will show live selected matches involving the Thai players' teams.
