Lucas Carstensen of Germany won the fifth stage of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's Cup Tour of Thailand yesterday while teammate Nikodemus Holler remained the overall leader heading into the final day of the competition in Surat Thani.

The 219.60km penultimate stage started at Ranong's Provincial Administrative Organisation head office and finished at Surat Thani's City Hall.

Bike Aid rider Carstensen crossed the finish line with a time of 5:27.59 hours.

National team cyclist Sarawut Sirironnachai, from Thailand Continental Cycling Team, was second, also at 5:27.59 hours while another Bike Aid rider Jesse De Rooij came third.

It was a disappointing result for Sarawut, who failed to make it three in a row after his back-to-back stage wins on Thursday and Friday.

Bike Aid rider Holler retained the pink jersey for the race's overall leader with a time of 19:07.30 hours with Sarawut 35 seconds behind in second place (19:08.05).

Bike Aid stayed on top in the team standings with a time of 57:28.13 hours while Thailand Continental Cycling team were second on 57:29.10 hours.

Today's 142.30km sixth and final stage starts from Surat Thani's City Pillar Shrine and ends at Ratchaprapha Dam. The race will be shown live on Thai PBS's Facebook account and YouTube channel, starting at 8.45am.

The winner will receive the trophy graciously donated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The 2020 Tour of Thailand started in Samut Songkhram on Tuesday.
