Diogo Luis Santo proved his worth for leaders BG Pathum United with a strike shortly before the break that put the Thai League 1 leaders on course to a 2-1 victory over Trat on Tuesday night.

In the late game, former champions Buriram United hit two quick goals late to deal a massive blow to second-placed Port's already-dimming hopes of challenging for this year's league title, posting a 2-1 away win at PAT Stadium.

Klong Toey-based Port, put ahead by Sergio Suarez in the 48th minute, also failed to avenge last week's FA Cup loss at the hands of the Thunder Castle for whom Apiwat Ngualamhin and Maicon Marques struck two minutes apart in the dying stages of the match.

Port now lag 10 points behind unbeaten Pathum United, who have so far collected 50 points from 18 matches.

The Rabbits were in for a for shock when a rare defensive error saw left-back Saharat Pongsuwan deflect a Ricardo dos Santos shot into his own net in the 25th minute to give lowly Trat a 1-0 upper hand.

However, Pathum did not take long to get on even footing as Victor Cardozo converted a spot kick nine minutes later before former Buriram star Diogo grabbed his first league goal for his new club on 45 minutes.

Six more games are scheduled for today and tomorrow. All matches are being staged behind closed doors.
