The AFC Champions League group stage kicked off on Tuesday with Thai League 1 side Ratchaburi off to a losing start in their ACL debut with a 2-0 defeat to South Korea's Pohang Steelers.

In a Group G match at Bangkok's Rajamangala National Stadium, Boris Tashchy opened the scoring for the K-League 1 team in the first half and Lim Sang-Hyub added their second late on. In the other Group G game, Japan's Nagoya Grampus faced Johor Darul Ta'zim late last night at the same venue.

All Group G games are being played at Rajamangala. Ratchaburi will aim to bounce back against Johor Darul Ta'zim on Friday while Nagoya take on Pohang.

Pohang, the 2009 ACL winners, suffered a scare in the first minute against the Dragons when Kritsananon Srisuwan found space in the middle before firing an effort just over the bar.

But the South Koreans soon found their rhythm and three minutes later Steeven Langil unleashed his shot past Ratchaburi goalkeeper Kampon Phatomakkakul, but his goal-bound attempt was cleared on the line by defender Vafa Hakhamaneshi.

Pohang broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when Tashchy rose highest to nod home from close range following Manuel Palacios' cross from the right.

The visitors dominated for long periods and missed several chances before scoring their second goal with nine minutes to go.

Go Young-Joon sent a neat pass to Lim and the forward curled a powerful drive into the right corner of the net to finish off the Dragons.
