Thailand's largest mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) has chosen Olympic gold medallist Panipak "Tennis" Wongpattanakit to be its new brand ambassador to inspire Thais with her fighting success.

AIS chief executive Somchai Lertsutiwong said Ms Panipak embodies the spirit of "never giving up until the last second to achieve victory", in line with the company's efforts as the official broadcaster of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

"In addition to broadcasting Thai athletes in competition at the Olympics for the Thai public to enjoy and cheer, we wanted to thank Tennis for bringing happiness to Thailand by welcoming her to the AIS family," said Mr Somchai.

Ms Panipak will serve as brand ambassador for AIS, displaying the values of leadership and inspiration for the Thai people, he said.

Ms Panipak won the Olympic gold medal for taekwondo in the 49-kilogramme weight category -- the sole medal for Thai athletes at the event thus far.

It is the first time Thailand won a gold medal in taekwondo at the Olympics.

"She will be a source of inspiration for her single-minded resolve and indomitable spirit, as befits being the world No.1 in her sport," said Mr Somchai.

He said AIS would like to thank every member of the Thai Olympic team in every sport, who are striving to bring glory to the country at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

"I represent all the AIS team in welcoming [Nong] Tennis to the AIS family," Mr Somchai said.

"We want to be a part of Thai sporting success at these Olympics by providing live telecasts on AIS Play [an over-the-top app]. We believe sport has the power to bring happiness to Thais in these trying times."

AIS secured the rights to broadcast the Tokyo Olympics, which run until Aug 8.

A total of 16 channels on AIS Play have been allocated for live feeds.

Exclusive content from the Olympic Games are also provided to AIS subscribers through the AIS Play mobile app, the AIS Playbox set-top box, Samsung smart TV, Apple TV and the website aisplay.ais.co.th.
