The 16-member Thai national team leave for Lithuania on Wednesday night to take part in the Fifa Futsal World Cup finals, hoping to make at least the quarter-finals for the first time in the tournament.
The finals get underway on Sunday with the title game scheduled for Oct 3.
The team officials and players yesterday called on Football Association of Thailand (FAT) president Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang, who wished them "best of luck" in the tournament.
"These are difficult times because of the Covid-19 pandemic so follow the instructions of the team doctor," Somyot advised the players. "This is the biggest futsal tournament in the world so I hope you will all do your best."
Thailand have been placed in Group C along with Portugal, Morocco and Solomon Islands.
Deputy FAT president Adisak Benjasiriwanm, who looks after futsal, said: "This is a special occasion for us because we are being coached by a Thai, Rakpol Sainetngram, for the first time. We want to show to the world that our coaches are as good as anyone in the world.
"We reached the last 16 in 2012 and 2016. While our target is to make the quarter-finals or semi-finals this year, it won't be easy for us to get through the first round as our three group opponents are regional champions."
Thailand take on Portugal on Monday, face Morocco three days later before meeting Solomon Islands on Sept 19. All three matches will be televised live by PPTV HD36.
